Monrovia

Located 20 miles northeast of Los Angeles at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, Monrovia is known for combining small town charm with tech industry. The area that would later become Monrovia was initially lived on by the Tongva tribe and was part of the Mission San Gabriel lands before plots of land were sold to the founders of the Monrovia land and Water Company. The company’s president was William Monroe and the city is named in his honor. Monrovia’s main street, Myrtle Avenue is named for his daughter.

Real Estate:  Because of Monrovia’s long history there is a wide variety of housing stock including Craftsman, Spanish Colonial, and Victorian homes.  Monrovia’s Old Town has been revitalized and is now offers shops and restaurants along Myrtle Avenue along with condos and rental units that make it a thriving community.

Community Life: The Monrovia Friday Night Family Street Fair on Myrtle Avenue is a decades-long tradition that includes a farmer’s market, kids zone, and live entertainment. Monrovia Canyon Park is a great spot for hiking that leads to a waterfall.

Education: Monrovia is served by the Monrovia Unified School District. The district now has one high school, one continuation school, two middle schools and five elementary schools including Bradoaks Elementary School, Clifton Middle School, Mayflower Elementary School, and Monroe Elementary School. Private schools in the area include Calvary Road Baptist Academy and Immaculate Conception School. Mt. Sierra College is a local community college which offers bachelor’s degrees in media arts, business, and technology.

Transportation: Monrovia is reached by the 210 Freeway. The area is served by the Foothill Transit system and the Metro.

Local Attractions: Library Park includes the public library, a band shell, playground, walkways and more.
