Biography: Located just inside Ventura County, Thousand Oaks is known for both big business and open space. Named for its many oak trees, the area features over 75 miles of trails for hiking and biking.
Real Estate: Thousand Oaks is a planned community that began during the 1950s. The city is ranked as one of the safest cities in the area and is divided into two areas, East and West of the Moorpark Freeway. There are many HOAs and communities in the area including Verdigris, Symphony Homes, Dos Vientos, and Eagle Ridge/Bellagio. Single-family homes in traditional styles are popular. Homes in communities sometimes share amenities such as pools and tennis courts but larger homes with backyard pools are also popular.
Community Life: Civic Arts Plaza draws talent from around the world for musicals, concerts, lectures, and much more. A farmers market is held on Thursdays at The Oaks Shopping Center, a popular local retail destination. The Thousand Oaks Library System is renowned for being a top-ranked library and includes the Grant R. Brimhall Library which has a massive Children’s Library wing.
Education: Thousand Oaks is served by the Conejo Valley School District and is famous for its excellent schools including the highly-regarded Lang Ranch Elementary as well as Colina Middle School, Los Cerritos Middle School, and Thousand Oaks High School. Private schools include Viewpoint School, La Reina High School, and Hillcrest Christian School. California Lutheran University is also located in Thousand Oaks.
Transportation: Thousand Oaks is served by the 101 and 23 Freeways. Thousand Oaks Transit has four routes throughout the city and offers weekday commuter shuttle to the Moorpark Metrolink Station.
Local Attractions: People are drawn to the area for the great hiking, one of the popular spots is Paradise Falls which has a beautiful waterfall. Gardens of the World includes a Japanese, English, French, and Italian gardens. The Chumash Indian Museum is dedicated to the history of the Chumash People and offers nature hikes, exhibits, events, and educational programs.
