Sherman Oaks

Sherman Oaks was one of the first Valley communities to experience intensive real estate development as expansion came to the Valley area. The area remains prized for laidback livability and community spirit.

Real Estate: Named for Gen. Moses Hazeltine Sherman, an early land developer, Sherman Oaks real estate includes single-family homes in a wide variety of architectural styles. Royal Woods is a development that spring up in the mid 1950s and is still deemed one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in the area. Apartments and condos also line some of the main streets. Mulholland Estates is a luxury subdivision that has a few celebrity residents.

Community Life: Sherman Oaks offers great places to shop,

The Sherman Oaks Galleria, the height of teen mall culture in the 1980s was renovated into an open-air shopping center in the early 2000s to keep up with the times. Sherman Oaks Castle Park with miniature golf, an arcade, and batting cages is a popular family destination.

Education: Sherman Oaks  is served by the Los Angeles Unified School District and local schools include Robert A. Milikan Middle School, Notre Dame High School, Riverside Drive Elementary, and Dixie Canyon Avenue Elementary.  The famed Buckley School is a private school founded in 1933.
